This was the occasion of the first scheduled steam service in 50 years. As it was running over the Ribblehead Viaduct on the Settle to Carlisle line for only 3 days I (and a quite a few others) decided it was not to be missed.
I’d stopped over the day before to get an idea of the best location but on the day changed my mind based on the clusters of steam fanatics who obviously knew more about the best places than I ever will.
I’m not sure I’ll ever get that enthused over the steam side of things – for me its more the iconic location.
